Stringent security measures have been put in place at Aden Abdulle International Airport in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, where a Djibouti-bound plane was punched a large hole in its fuselage by a blast earlier this year. The measures include a round-the-clock security surveillance system, physical checkpoints, electronic detection systems and rigorous passenger luggage and cargo screening. Sniffer dogs will also be used and firearms completely banned within airport premises. In March, Aden Abdulle International Airport recorded the arrival of some 7,800 international passengers and over 5,500 international departures.

Somali authorities have been forced to turn the port of Mogadishu into the primary exit point for the country's livestock exports. Traditionally, animals would be exported through the northern port of Bosaso but authorities fear the animals may not survive the long journey through the drought scorched northern region. At the moment, livestock exports are the country's main foreign exchange earner. Abdulaziz Billow reports from the Port of Mogadishu.

Today, however, farmers in the Horn of Africa state are using several different means to cushion themselves from the elements. At a time when Somalia is struggling the drain of scarcity and famine, a flood leaves Somalia's breadbasket underwater, destroying their makeshift shelters, creating the conditions for an extended famine and taking the area's misery to a whole new level. As rain reached the camp in Mogadishu on July 31, old women and children struggled to repair their shelters which could not withhold the downpour. Internally displaced people described their situation as a desperate one, and had nothing to shield them from the harsh weather conditions. Thousands of IDPs, who were previously living in destroyed buildings in the Somali capital, have now been moved to camps outside the city. The U.N has declared famine in two cities of southern Somalia, and has said that 3.7 million people are at r...

(1 Mar 2017) Binti Sayyid Hajji on Wednesday entered a food distribution centre with her malnourished child in the Somali capital, Mogadishu. But she was not alone - thousands of others were seeking aid amid a devastating drought that is creating fears of a full-blown famine in the country. Hajji told The Associated Press the drought had devastated her "farmland and properties". Somalia's new president has declared a national disaster, with the drought threatening millions of people. The statement from the office of President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed on Tuesday said he has appealed for help from the international community and Somalia's diaspora of two million. Combating the drought is a priority for Mohamed, who was elected in February to lead this fragile Horn of Africa nation also...

Somalia was country number 155/196 on my Expedition promoting Positive Peace through Sustainable Tourism. Please note that this experience was my own, and I think it's important to respect that we each have our own experiences when we travel and share that however we'd like to. I went into Somalia with an open mind and had a truly educational experience thanks to the Peace Hotel 1 and everyone who helped me out there, ensuring my safety while also making sure that I saw the true, raw and beautiful aspects of Mogadishu. Please spare all negative comments as they are not welcome in this community. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to experience Somalia and the truly kind people and I hope to go back again soon! One thing I took away from this trip and the many I've been on, is that d...

World's deadliest tourist Destination. Editor-Jitendra Kumar Jitu Voice-Anju Paudel Travelling should be more than packing bags, travelling long way to a 7star hotel and visiting some of most likely visited tourist destination. According to my idea of holiday, if you have a charged pocket, a desire to taste some adventure (or taste death) then you must visit Somalia. Somalia is on the Horn of Africa, and is bordered by Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the north-west, and Kenya on its south-west. On June 21, the US Federal Government has issued a Travel Warning for the country. Travel to Somalia is EXTREMELY NOT recommended as the conflict continues. Somalia is noted as the world's unsafe travel destination and is one of the most dangerous places on Earth. Somalia is home to the largest c...
